Annie & Matt’s Love story

Annie and Matthew live in the Seattle area.

Just before Thanksgiving 2021, they met while playing mini-golf with other young widowed people at Flatstick Pub in Pioneer Square (Seattle) to support Movember, a men’s health awareness organization. They were the last group to get on the putt-putt course and it didn’t take us long to realize we had a lot in common. They both relocated to the Pacific Northwest the same year (2001), got married to our late spouses the same year (2004), became first-time parents the same year (2011), grew up in practicing Christian homes, and even share the same alma mater (Northwestern University).

After meeting in person, they became good friends through our regular e-mail correspondence and social activities with what’s become a community of mutual friends. They became founding members of the Club Wid meetup for Gen X and younger widowed people in the Seattle/Bellevue area. It’s been going strong for more than two years.

They began dating three months after they met.

Annie says, “We have a pretty nerdy relationship and like discussing books, ideas and current events. Other things we do together include going to live comedy shows, live concerts and lectures. We also enjoy traveling to new places with each other and our kids.” Matt agrees.

We love learning and staying curious, so anything that scratches that itch!

Of their dreams and plans, Matt says, “See the world together. Spend time outdoors and be active. Eat well, while home or away. Provide our kids with love and support, and imbue them with our shared values and beliefs. If we are lucky enough to leave our jobs before old age, we’d like to find engaging ways to spend our time that also leave the world a better place.

Planning for a 2025 wedding is their summer project!
